Joining AHPAF
The Allied Health Professional Associations Forum is a group of allied health organisations who meet to collaborate and share ideas for improving the status of allied health in the health system.
Who is an Allied Health Professional?
AHPAF has developed and adopted the following definition:
The NZ professional health and disability workforce consists largely of three major groups: the medical professions, the nursing professions and the allied health professions.
The allied health professions have a distinct, specialised body of knowledge and skills and actively work with people accessing health and disability services across a range of settings.
Allied health professionals are appropriately qualified as defined in s12 (2)(a-e) of the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003, have a professional association, an appropriate code of ethics and standards of practice, and a recognized system for monitoring ongoing competence.
In their practice, allied health professionals provide services and engage in activities which include:
à prevention
à assessment / evaluation

Working together to promote and support Allied Health Professionals
What is the Allied Health Professional Associations' Forum (AHPAF)?
AHPAF provides a forum for representatives of Allied Health Professional Associations to work together to:
à promote the value of allied health professional services
à make representations and submissions on issues of common interest to allied health professions
à develop effective working relationships with government and other key stakeholders
à take an active approach and be involved in development, implementation and monitoring of relevant health policies.
Vision
The Allied Health Professional Associations Forum is the recognised connected voice of Allied Health professionals advancing their common interests.
Allied Health professional groups are comparatively small in number compared to other health professionals.
Joining together increases our numbers significantly and gives us a strong voice on common interests and issues.
Each member association also benefits from the knowledge and skills shared within AHPAF.
Together we can advance the common interests of Allied Health professionals and make a difference!
